www.images-magazine.com 04 images JANUARY 2019 A new year, new challenges, new opportunities... and lots of new products! Our annual What’s New guide (page 39) reviews the garment and accessory styles that will make their debut in 2019, along with colour and sizing additions to current favourites. We can guarantee that at least some of these products will be stamped with ‘bestseller’ by the end of the year. Meanwhile, our Supplier Focus section (page 97) does precisely what it says on the tin – it focuses on the newest equipment, machinery and consumables from the industry’s premier suppliers; everything from new vinyl films and transfer printing applications through productivity-boosting advances in embroidery machinery to low ink-cost, high-output industrial DTG machinery, versatile latest generation wide format digital printing technology and super efficient textile drying systems. These are the products with the potential to drive your business’s growth and success in 2019. A dominant theme across many of the new product launches for 2019 is ‘sustainability’, including Russell’s new Authentic Tee Pure Organic, Stanley/ Stella’s 100% organic cotton collection, Westford Mill’s Organic Premium Cotton Gymsac, American Apparel’s Unisex Organic Fine Jersey T-shirt, James & Nicholson’s organic cotton headband and scarves, Stedman’s Classic T Organic for women, and the Taroko Regen Sweater in 70% regenerated cotton waste/30% recycled polyester from Écologie. Along with Brexit, sustainability was also front of mind for several of the decorators we spoke to for our ‘Industry forecast’ feature (page 28), including Kerry Flanagan, co-founder of Tshirtify, who flagged up the company’s emphasis on waste reduction, and Zsolt Petrik, of Fifth Column, whose wish is for more people to opt for ethically sourced, organic cotton garments in 2019. Speaking of forecasts, our very own mystic, Marshall Atkinson, shares his annual predictions for what will be hot in garment decoration over the coming 12 months (page 117), including ‘experiential customer focus’, equipment add- ons, the importance of data, the growth of digital printing and... sustainability. Fellow contributor Erich Campbell weighs in with some invaluable advice on how to make the most of any January sales lull by kick-starting your marketing campaign for 2019 (page 114), and we also launch a new series of columns from Michael Best on the characters that can make or break your garment decoration business, beginning with your accountant.
