T rade show season is well under way. From Long Beach to Stuttgart, this year’s shows are particularly notable for the effort and creativity the exhibitors are investing in their stands and their presence at these events. Strolling the exhibition floor at P&P Live! or TV TecStyle Visions, for example, it was impossible not to be impressed by the high standard of presentation and the sense of professionalism that this bestows on the industry as a whole. If you didn’t make it to the NEC for P&P Live! in its new earlier slot, you can catch up on the highlights in our review starting on page 42. Meanwhile, our regular columnist Marshall Atkinson does the honours from the other side of the pond, walking the aisles and visiting the booths at the ISS Long Beach show in California to compile his round-up of some of the less publicised (and more intriguing) product launches at January’s signature US trade event. The new product launches also keep coming. The latest is the Kyo Hybrid from Aeoon, which the company unveiled at TV TecStyle Visions, in February, and which will be available from Q3, 2018. The machine offers a new approach to hybrid analogue/digital textile printing, combining the screen printing and DTG printing processes in a single unit for entirely automated production of up to 1,280 prints an hour. You can read more about it in our digital printing showcase (from page 71). Speaking of digital printing, we’re eagerly anticipating the next big event on this year’s trade show calendar – Sign & Digital UK 2018, at the NEC, in April. With digital print glowing ever brighter on many garment decorators’ radars, this is a must-visit exhibition for any business that’s looking at digital printing technology as a way of updating and diversifying its production processes and product offerings. We’re especially excited to visit the Textile Printing Live Demo featuring Mimaki wide format printers, which will present an interactive digital production workshop where visitors can follow a printed textile product from design through to reality. Fespa’s new Print Make Wear attraction, which will debut at the 2018 Global Expo in Berlin, in May, adopts a similarly interactive approach. Replicating the workings of a fast fashion factory, it will present a live production environment, highlighting every step in the screen and digital printing production process, from initial design to finished product. MagnaColours and Brother are two of the big name brands involved in what promises to be a fascinating experience. (See the Industry News section for full details.) The popularity of the Newtech, Promotion & Branding and Print & Stitch roadshows has grown hugely in recent years, with these regional events offering the convenience of local venues and more personal attention from the exhibitors. Do yourself a favour and mark at least one of them in your 2018 diary.
