Managing director Dean Sanger came up with the idea after driving his 18-year-old daughter’s car, which is fitted with a black box for insurance purposes, to work one day. “This means that the car is monitored for speed, cornering and braking,” explains Dean. “It is fitted to monitor new drivers’ capabilities and basically help keep them grounded and safe.” During the short journey, Dean experienced a number of cars tailgating him while he stuck to the limit. “I was so surprised that I asked Joe our designer to come up with a sticker that was informative, polite and hopefully ‘cool’ enough that a young driver would feel comfortable and place it in their window or on their boot lid. I think that this little sticker could help to explain why the car in front is as eager as you to get somewhere, but has a restrictive device that is trying to keep them safe.” Highways England launched a tailgating campaign in September 2018 to highlight the need for the minimum of a two-second gap between cars. More than 100 people are killed or seriously hurt each year in crashes caused by driving too closely to other vehicles, with one in eight of all serious crashes on motorways and major A-roads caused by tailgating, reports Highways England. If you’d like a free sticker, please email joe@saburink.com and say if you’d like the green or black Ps version. www.saburink.com Gildan says it is committed to creating strong communities in the regions where it operates, such as Honduras (pictured) Gildan creates dedicated CSR website In August, Gildan Activewear released its Genuine Responsibility 2017 report, making it available on its new, dedicated CSR website. “We are pleased to share the social and environmental results from our operations in 2017,“ said Claudia Sandoval, vice-president, corporate citizenship. “As a company, we understand that our continued growth and success demands that we proactively implement sustainable solutions throughout our operations and honour our commitments to caring for our people, conserving the environment and creating stronger communities.“ Gildan reports that last year, the company delivered more than 2 million training and development hours, as well as providing 181,000 free medical consultations, US$4.8 million towards free transportation, and US$15.8 million in subsidised meals for employees.
