T here’s something immensely satisfying about discovering a good idea, especially if it’s one of those “that’s so simple, why didn’t I think of it’ ideas. Even better are those ideas that have all the potential to make a real difference to your business and your bottom line, or even to disrupt an entire sector of the industry and reshape the way we decorate garments and textiles in the future. This issue is stacked with great ideas and we can’t wait to start sharing them with you. Good idea #1 Regatta’s new High Visibility range and, in particular, the brand’s new and unique ‘Intelligent Directional Reflection’ system. This adopts an inventive approach to angling reflective tapes so that you can instantly tell which direction a person is walking in when it is dark and visibility is poor. You’ll find more details of the new technology on page 30. Good idea #2 This month we also turn our attention to Wearable Accessories with a showcase that features everything from underwear to winter headwear (page 66). It also includes one of our favourite accessories of recent years and another genuinely good idea – the Drawcords in a Tube from Just Hoods by AWDis, which offer a super simple and affordable way to customise the brand’s wide array of hoodie styles in seconds. Good idea #3 Moving on to decoration processes, we have not one, but two step-by-step guides this month and both illustrate yet more great ideas. In ‘May the film be with you’, Dae Ha UK shows you how to take vinyls to a new dimension by sublimation printing onto the company’s Premium Holographic and Premium Metallic speciality films (page 78). It’s a straightforward process that results in out- of-this-world results and is something that everyone can try. So start creating! Good idea #4 Our second step-by-step provides an introduction to using the Coloreel instant embroidery thread colouring system, which was officially launched in September. We’ve reported on the development of the system over the past 18 months and it is fantastic to see it out of beta and ready to start shipping in January. In case you haven’t been following the Coloreel story to date, the new system can be fitted to any commercial embroidery machine and used to colour white thread, on the machine, before it is embroidered into a design. Not only does this mean that a single thread can be used to stitch any colour, it also simplifies the embroidery of complex colour blends. If it lives up to its early promise it is certain to be heralded as the most disruptive new embroidery technology in decades. Turn to page 44 to see how it works.
