The company has created a process that uses FSC-certified wood pulp to create a strong, elastic fibre that it says has similar stretch and strength qualities to those of cotton. It can be made water- repellent or absorbing, and can be dyed before the wet spinning phase. The only side product is evaporated water, which is also recycled back into the process, reports Spinnova. No harmful chemicals are used in the process. The fibre is still in an R&D phase at the moment, but the company has recently secured additional financing, allowing Spinnova to push ahead with its pilot factory and product development. “Licensing the technology now being developed in Finland is our most likely future business model, so piloting the technology concept on an industrial scale is now our main priority,“ said Spinnova’s CEO Janne Poranen. www.spinnova.fi The Outdoors Company: Patagonia Better Sweater “The Better Sweater is one of the most popular garments supplied to the B2B market owing to Patagonia’s commitment to building the best product with a social and environmental conscience – making it perfect workwear for a company wishing to meet its CSR,“ says The Outdoors Company.
