INDUSTRY NEWS www.images-magazine.com 14 images JANUARY 2018 Sharon Lee ‘gives something back’ through support of Salvation Army Four staff from headwear company Sharon Lee took time out from the festive rush to help out at the company’s local Salvation Army in Braintree, Essex. The group worked in the kitchens and were on hand both to dish up the food and wash up afterwards. The company also donated eight bags of tinned and dried goods. “We wanted to donate and volunteer to a local charity which supports and provides for the lonely and homeless around the Christmas period,” explained the company. “It felt amazing to help out the community and give something back around the Christmas period.” www.sharonleeltd.co.uk The Sharon Lee team helping out in the Salvation Army kitchens Result donates kit to Sunderland Rangers FC The children’s team and coaches at Sunderland Rangers FC are being kept warm this winter thanks to a donation from Result. The outerwear supplier has donated showerproof and windproof Core Soft Padded Jackets (R233M and R233J) and lightweight, knitted Core Softex Beanies (RC031X)s for the entire children’s team as well as its coaches. Managing director for Result, David Sanders Smith, said: “Result places great value on the time and energy so willingly given by all those at grass roots-level sports, and to show our appreciation we decided to donate a number of our jackets and hats to the team to keep players and coaches warm during training in the winter months. Both items are tag-free and ready to brand, meaning the club can easily customise them with their own logo, truly making them their own!” Sunderland Rangers FC said: “We can’t thank Result enough for this gracious offer and it means the world to the players. Thank you so much!” www.resultclothing.com The children’s team from Sunderland Rangers FC in Result jackets and beanies A s we head into 2018, it feels a fitting time to reflect on the big trend of 2017: the slogan T-shirt. The catwalks were packed with slogan tees and high street shops quickly realised that putting an empowering slogan on a tee guaranteed a speedy seller, especially if it was one with a feminist slant. That’s why this month we have chosen as our decorated product of the month the Dress of the Year 2017 – an outfit from Dior’s spring/summer 2017 collection that includes the white cotton ‘We Should All Be Feminists’ print T-shirt. Combined with a black wool jacket and black tulle skirt, it was a striking statement that garnered a huge amount of press and provided inspiration for the entire fashion industry. The Dress of the Year 2017 was selected for the Fashion Museum Bath by Sarah Bailey of Red Magazine. Speaking of the appointment of Maria Grazia Chiuri as creative director at Christian Dior, she commented: “When I saw her first collection come down the runway it was utterly uncompromising in its message. I loved the resolute strength of the models in their logo T-shirts emblazoned with Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie’s call to arms ‘We Should All Be Feminists’.” Maria Grazia Chiuri said: “I think a T-shirt, because it is so basic, is the easiest way to display your ideas. The slogan ‘We Should All Be Feminists’ takes over this blank space and plays with the political value of appearances. I’m glad that so many women saw my T-shirt as a way to claim their own position, their own role in society, to make their voice heard through this item of clothing. It’s quite an awakening also for fashion, and for what you can do with fashion. For me, the white T-shirt was a simple, direct and immediate means to say something loud and clear.” The Dress of the Year 2017 will be on display at the Fashion Museum until 1 January 2019. w www.fashionmuseum.co.uk DECORATED PRODUCT OF THE MONTH Where basic meets high fashion – Dior’s ‘We Should All Be Feminists’ T-shirt, the Dress of the Year 2017
