Images Magazine Digital Edition May 2018

M ay is here, spring is in the air and sunny summer days – along with all those meaty T-shirt orders – are on their way, or so the weathermen, (and -women), assure us. May is also the time for our annual Womenswear showcase and this year it has an added poignancy: 2018 marks the centenary of (some) women in the UK gaining the right to vote (full voting rights on a par with those enjoyed by men were not granted for another ten years). The imprint industry may have had to wait a further 80 years for the advent of brandable lady-fit apparel, when SF (Skinnifit), Mantis World, Continental and other pioneering brands brought us the original skinny-fit tees; however, the development of this sector of the market since then has been truly impressive, as this month’s showcase (page 60) clearly demonstrates. The pioneers of the skinny-fit tee are still hard at work pushing forward the possibilities of women’s styles with SF launching the Women’s Slounge Top and Mantis introducing the loose-fit Dance T. The new Cecilia Women’s Sleeveless Hooded T-Shirt from NakedShirt, Stella Reduces crop hoodie from Stanley/Stella and 2786 Terrain Padded Jacket are just some of the other new women’s styles on offer this season. And that’s not to mention our two favourite womenswear launches of 2018 – the Comfy Co Gals Flannel Short and super-chic Marbella Wide-Brimmed Sun Hat from Beechfield. Adrian Burton also turns his attention to womenswear in this month’s AskAdy column. He concentrates on industrial workwear and has picked out the new Pulsar Ladies Storm Coat for special mention. We’re also looking forward to the launch of the new exclusive collection of female-fit work garments from Ballyclare. It’s difficult to imagine what the Suffragettes would have made of advanced garments being manufactured with the purpose of keeping women safe and comfortable, helping them to perform, and raising their morale in the workplace, but one imagines they would have approved. We’re also now well into the marathon and fun run season, which is a key period for charity fundraising. Decorated garments play an ever more important role in many charities’ fundraising mix as we discovered when we spoke to four very different organisations about their procurement and use of branded products. We share their informative insights on page 71, and review a wide range of eventwear – for charities, fun runs, music festivals and more – on page 74. In his regular column, Marshall Atkinson focuses his analytical eye on the different personalities that are often to be found manning the presses in textile print shops. Do you recognise the descriptions? Do you recognise yourself?! And are there any other archetypal printers that Marshall has missed and which deserve a mention too? If so, we’d love to know: send us a brief description.
