For the first time, Pantone has also debuted a multi-sensory approach that includes not just the sight of Classic Blue, but also the taste, texture, scent and sound of it. To bring the colour of Classic Blue to life, Pantone has provided a multi- sensory experience in partnership with AudioUX, LANDR, The Inside and Firmenich to describe its Colour of the Year. The company says its investment in the machinery, which includes Industry 4.0 manufacturing technology and is being installed this month, will lead to increased production capabilities. “Our present cutting machine achieves 85% up time, whereas the new Lectra machine is expected to be able to reach 98% after a brief installation period,” explained Tibard. “The Vector IX will also be able to increase our British manufacturing output by 30%, which in real terms means over 3,300 extra garments a week. The mechanical benefit of this new cutting machine is that stock held as ‘work in progress’ will reduce by 50% within six months of installation.” This investment was also influenced by environmental considerations, said the company, with the new cutting machine being 20% more energy- efficient than the present one. Operations director Andy Shackleton added: “Tibard has always committed to British manufacturing. This new cutting machine facilitates greater output and efficiency in clothing production, and we think that it’s a fantastic platform for us to expand our manufacturing capabilities even further. Our customers will really see the benefit in both their physical uniform and our wider services.” www.tibard.co.uk ESMA Academy and DITF to hold digital textile printing course in Germany ESMA Academy and the German Institutes of Textile and Fibre Research (DITF) have announced an upcoming course on digital textile printing. The course, which is scheduled to be held from 21-24 April 2020 at the DITF in Denkendorf, Germany, is on the theoretical and practical aspects of digital printing technology for textile applications. The course will involve eight theory and six practical training blocks looking at topics such as textile materials, textile chemistry, inkjet pretreatment, inks, printing, post- treatment, characterisation, colour management and calibration, as well as digital textile printing workflow and microfactory. “The course is open to everyone who wants to learn about the technology behind digital textile printing and specific application requirements. We welcome printers, print service providers, textile manufacturers, suppliers, developers, chemists and all those impacted by the shift to digital production processes,” said ESMA.
