Firefighter is a flame-resistant thread made from 100% aramid, containing Nomex fibres from DuPont, designed to resist ignition to prevent flames spreading and to self-extinguish once the source of the fire is removed, thus providing ultimate protection for the wearer. Polyneon FR is a flame-retardant thread suitable for home and public décor, as well as protective clothing against molten metals, such as liquid aluminium or steel. The certification to look out for is DIN EN ISO 11612, and various tests determine the extent to which clothing is capable of enduring industrial heat, explains the company. The different types of heat are categorised with the following letters: A = flames B = convective heat C = radiant heat D = molten aluminium E = molten iron Firefighter thread conforms fully to all heat standards A to E, while Polyneon FR is certified for the requirements of D and E. To ensure all safety standards are met, Madeira also strongly recommends using fire-retardant backing and underthread, which is available on large cones, or on its new pre-wound bobbins. Madeira’s Firefighter flame-resistant thread is made from 100% aramid
